Sculptris

I've been harping on about Scupltris to anyone who will listen for the last few weeks. Its a free 3d sculpting program available here. If you are not familiar with 3d/digital modelling then think of this program as a sort of virtual clay. There are a small number of commercially available programs that fall into this category, Z-brush being the most notable and feature-laden example. However if you cannot afford Z-brush then this is a very nifty and for the most part intuitive piece of software. The Alien head was the first sculpt i attempted and what you see only took about 20 minutes, the frog and the skull both took a bit longer partly because I was having more fun with the tools but also because at first I didn't bother with using reference imagery. After a while it became clear that there were details missing but I knew not what they were...off to do an image search. I'm nto sure what it says about me that I can create an Alien head easier than I can my own skull. I haven'd made any sculpts very recently but more are on the way...some ideas are brewing.

Here we go...

A hearty welcome to whoever stumbles across this humble little online presence of mine. The idea here is to have somewhere to display some sketches of my work (mainly digital imagery of various sorts) but who knows what else might end up here. For example to the left is a photo from near the top of Nephin in Mayo looking toward the more well know Croagh Patrick. A tough climb but very much worth the effort. I'd love to give it another go but not for a few years maybe, there are other hills to conquer first.
